Description

(*) What type of Espresso grind should I use for Papua New Guinea Sigri Coffee?

The grinding to prepare an Espresso is the one that requires more precision of all the grinding to prepare the coffee drink, it is for this reason that we offer 3 different sizes of ground Espresso: Fine, intermediate and thick, each corresponding to a different particle size .

Basically it will depend on the type of Espresso Coffee Maker we have. Assuming that we use ground coffee with an intermediate degree of grinding, that we use the correct amount of coffee and that we press it properly:

  • If the extraction (coffee fall) is too fast and we are "watered down", we will need to use the degree of fine grinding.
  • If the extraction is too slow and we fall almost "drop by drop", we will need to use the degree of coarse grinding.
  • If the extraction is proper, we are using the correct degree of grinding.

Papua New Guinea: Nature and Ancestral Culture

Located in Oceanic Melanesia, Papua New Guinea is the most populous country in this Pacific region and a culturally fascinating territory. In fact, it is known for its unique diversity, with more than 800 indigenous languages that keep their ancestral traditions alive.

The country is also a true sanctuary of biodiversity: its natural environment ranges from rugged mountain ranges and volcanoes to vast swamps and coastal areas of wild beauty. Thanks to a humid tropical climate and very fertile volcanic soils, the land is rich in natural resources such as gold, gas and timber. However, the economy of the majority of the population is based primarily on subsistence and commercial agriculture.

In this context, the coffee industry has become the key agricultural export. Present in 16 provinces, farming is vital to the social fabric, as it provides income to more than 2,5 million people. Most of them are families who cultivate small "coffee gardens", thus boosting the development of local communities.

The Sigri Estate and the Wahgi Valley

Sigri Plantation, located in the fertile Wahgi Valley, is a historic institution founded in the 50s that has pioneered the elevation of coffee quality in the country. Since its inception, it has earned a solid global reputation for its consistency in the specialty sector.

Its coffee trees grow at an altitude of around 1.550 metres in an ideal cool climate. To guarantee excellence, the estate only uses noble Arabica varieties such as Typica, Bourbon and Mundo Novo, avoiding modern hybrids. In addition, the crops grow under shade to protect the natural habitat, also serving as a refuge for more than 90 species of birds.

In terms of method, Sigri combines tradition and technical rigor. All coffee is harvested manually at the optimum point of ripeness and undergoes a highly controlled wet process. This meticulous treatment ensures the identity of the coffee: a uniform cup, free of defects and with a perfect balance between sweetness, body and acidity.
